Unstoppable Whit

Sassy...Hilarious...Real...Whitty.

These are just a few of the words that come to mind when Ms. Kym Whitley jumps in the scene. This actress, comedienne, producer, and director has been busy with many projects, which includes her show, “Cruisin’ for Love” on TV One, and appearances on a variety of popular sitcoms.

“I’m all over the place when I’m doing a film,” Whitely said. “When doing movies, I have to develop my character, whereas it’s more stable with a television setup. And doing stand-up is a whole other beat.” Whitley became an actress before doing stand-up and she is enjoying what she does best. Her latest work includes a variety of characters that she plays in the controversial smash series, “The Boondocks,” which she stated is quite a challenge.

“Animation is hard work,” she stated. “You would have to act what you’re gonna say with words and looks.” This beautiful busybody has so many projects going on, she started Kwick Whit Productions with the help of her partner, Willa Cooper.

Since starting her own company, she is working on films and a couple of reality shows in addition to “Cruisin’…” and should be making way this year. Whitley is also a regular at "Whacked Out Wednesdays" comedy night at Sierra's CafĂ© in Studio City, CA with her partner, Buddy Lewis. Even when she’s not in the actor’s behavior, she grabs attention with her lectures and causes.

She recently spoke at the Congressional Black Caucus about the portrayal of black women in the media. In addition to her production company, she also runs her own non-profit organization, “Comics 4 Kids,” and supports a number of organizations addressing human services and uplifting the youth. When it comes to love and relationships in the entertainment business, Whitley knows that trust and security is key. While she stated that juggling both a career and a relationship can be difficult, it depends on the personality of the significant other.

“There can’t be a lot of worries about what’s going on and where you may be going,” she explains. So, what is the ideal man for Ms. Whitley? “He has to be comfortable in his own skin, have his own money and goals, loves and respects his mother, is able to understand females, and strong enough to stand my personality,” she confidently answers. With the talent and savvy this powerhouse of a woman maintains, there is nothing that she can’t do.
