The Prowess of the Airwaves

Media mogul Jeannie Jones has taken her creative ingenuity and is making the best of her career as both a radio/television personality and media executive. Originally from Washington, DC, she landed her first radio/television gig in the Norfolk, Virginia Beach area after completing her bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the University of Maryland. She’s never too busy to send a shout out to either one of her favorite celebrities or the everyday working person. She loves her work and being able to give back to her community.

As a high school teen, she was into track and field, cheerleading, roller skating, bowling, writing, and music. “As a kid growing up, I learned to play the piano and saxophone,” said Ms. Jones. “I wanted to be the sexiest saxophone player," she admits with a chuckle. She was very spontaneous for creating stories about her visits to various places that before she knew it, she was bitten by the radio bug. “For my audition in Maryland, I realized how witty I had to be in order to make it in this industry,” she states. “There was a 60-second word game and the word I had was cumquat. I had no idea what the word meant, so I did an improv with the word.” Because of her quick wit, she made the audition. Ms. Jones was always fascinated with the world of journalism and theater. She states that with the creativity instilled in her, it can help create a world where people escape their frustrations, gain inspiration, and feel good about themselves.

Some of the things Ms. Jones loves about her career are being able to give back to her aspiring community, having the ability to impact someone’s spirits, and having interviews and meetings with celebrities like LL Cool J and Janet Jackson. One of the main obstacles she had to overcome was refusing to be narrow-casted in the media industry. “The woman’s voice was always side-tracked on the radio,” she said.  “I’ve worked with guys who varied in many occupations from radio personalities to lawyers and I knew how to be savvy and quick-witted, just like them.” Not only was it necessary for one to be savvy and quick-witted, Ms. Jones also suggests that whatever goal one is out to reach, it is important to do some research. “Prepare for your craft, study it on a daily basis, have a good network, and be ready when the opportunity presents itself,” she said. It’s more than obvious that Ms. Jones has done her homework and the results are awesome beyond belief.

I’m Outta Here Entertainment was originally intended to be a PR firm scoping for undiscovered talent. As time pressed on, it eventually evolved into television and film casting as well as publishing. As for the name of the company, the concept was really simple, ‘I’m doing good work, I got my paper, I’m Outta Here!’ The contributions Ms. Jones made to her community seems to be endless, yet it shows how much of a heart she has. She has held many speak out series and discussions on health and wellness, HIV/AIDS, she is a community activist, motivational speaker, and Position to Transition is the platform used to aid college students into the workforce. Her other platforms and discussions teach youth how to be more financially savvy, how one can become a homeowner as early as your high school years, how to build a good credit history, and how to find the right financial sources for a good future.

Besides her signature, sizzling “meow” that greets and ends her radio show, she reminds her audience and all who she comes across to do some important things in life besides being the best you can be. She states, “Live well, laugh often, and love as much as you can!”
